2016 Barbaresco D.O.C.G

Known as ‘The Queen’ of Italian Wine (Barolo is ‘The King’), Barbaresco is loved for its juicy fruit but mellow delivery. Aged in oak for 24 months, and a further 6 months in bottle for refinement, this Barbaresco D.O.C.G from Cascina Ghercina is a red garnet wine with unique orange hues.

An initially floral aroma opens up to jammy, balsamic and spicy notes that delight the nose.

On the palate you’ll find smooth and soft tannins, a dry and elegant expressions of Barbaresco D.O.C.G from Cascina Ghercina.

We enjoy this wine for its mouth filling feel and warm nature. Works super well with matured cheeses, poultry and game and roast meats.

The Finer Details

What does our Somm say?

This expression of Barbaresco D.O.C.G from Cascina Ghercina is skilfully done, with its light to medium body transporting soft tannin and dry flavour to the mouth.

It’s quite ‘food friendly’ and versatile when it comes to food pairing, as the mouth filling juicy red fruit can handle most meats, game and even rich pasta dishes.

If I had my pick, I would try this with Chinese Duck Pancakes, high quality lamb cutlets or a meat lasagne. Even a traditional fettuccine with truffle shavings would make a worthy companion to this wine. Delicious!

If you prefer your Barbaresco D.O.C.G in a more casual setting, try this with some Grana Padano, Aged crumbly cheddar, Gouda, or mild salami.

Optimal Serving Temp: 16-18 Degrees Celsius

The Winery

Cascina Ghercina Winery was born from the desire of Paolo and Guido Sartirano: to dedicate a selection of wines to the wine lovers passionate for Piedmont wines, who are constantly looking for quality and tradition.

Respect for the territory, the continuous search for excellence, authentic passion: these are the values inherited from their fathers and grandfathers, now combined with technologies that modernity offers.

Cascina Ghercina wines are the offspring of Piedmont and in particular Langhe, historical places suited to vines. The cellar produces wines of the Piedmont wine-making tradition, using the grapes of the vineyards located around the lake Ghercina, in a suitable area situated in Novello, on the border with Barolo village.
Nas-cëtta, dolcetto, barbera, nebbiolo are the main grape varieties from which important wines come to life. The most famous one is of course Barolo, vinified and produced with sensitivity and mastery to satisfy even the most demanding palates.

Cascina Ghercina are honoured to share the historic and cultural importance of their wines and love their wines to be one day on your table, to share the emotion of tradition and the pleasure of good wine.
