2019 Barbera d’Alba D.O.C

Aged in oak for 6 months, and a further 2 months in bottle for refinement, this Barbera d’Alba D.O.C from Cascina Ghercina is a bright ruby red wine with ripened red fruit aromas that open up to liquorice notes that delight the nose.

On the palate you’ll find smooth and soft tannins, a dry and elegant expression of Barbera d’Alba D.O.C from Cascina Ghercina.

We enjoy this wine for it smooth and round flavour in the mouth. Works super well with meat stews, mature cheese and pastas.

The Finer Details

What does our Somm say?

This expression of Barbera d’Alba D.O.C from Cascina Ghercina is skilfully done, with its light to medium body transporting bright acidity and dry flavour to the mouth.

For food pairing, I tend to stay with darker meats, earthy flavours like mushrooms and herbs, and root vegetables or braised greens.

If I had my pick, I would try this with a kangaroo stew, a ‘white’ lasagne of mushroom and cheese or a simple roasted beetroot, walnut and goats cheese salad. Even a traditional fettuccine with truffle shavings would make a worthy companion to this wine. Delicious!

If instead you prefer your Barbera d’Alba D.O.C in a more casual setting, try this with pizza – most tomato based toppings will be delicious, but even a four-cheese or broccoli and white sausage topping would make for a divine food pairing.

Optimal Serving Temp: 16-18 Degrees Celsius

The Winery

Cascina Ghercina Winery was born from the desire of Paolo and Guido Sartirano: to dedicate a selection of wines to the wine lovers passionate for Piedmont wines, who are constantly looking for quality and tradition.

Respect for the territory, the continuous search for excellence, authentic passion: these are the values inherited from their fathers and grandfathers, now combined with technologies that modernity offers.

Cascina Ghercina wines are the offspring of Piedmont and in particular Langhe, historical places suited to vines. The cellar produces wines of the Piedmont wine-making tradition, using the grapes of the vineyards located around the lake Ghercina, in a suitable area situated in Novello, on the border with Barolo village.
Nas-cëtta, dolcetto, barbera, nebbiolo are the main grape varieties from which important wines come to life. The most famous one is of course Barolo, vinified and produced with sensitivity and mastery to satisfy even the most demanding palates.

Cascina Ghercina are honoured to share the historic and cultural importance of their wines and love their wines to be one day on your table, to share the emotion of tradition and the pleasure of good wine.
