2021 Cirò Rosso Classico D.O.C.

$39.99

Cirò Rosso Classico D.O.C. is the only D.O.C wine discipline produced in Calabria and has a rich historical connection to land and culture; due to its beloved characteristics and quality, it was the wine offered to the winners of the Ancient Olympic games in 765 A.C

Fattoria San Francesco has produced an elegant expression of Cirò Rosso Classico D.O.C, with a deep red wine colour whose purple reflections allude to a mature wine of depth.

An intense, ethereal and complex bouquet meets the nose; black fruits abound with spicy notes of  dry herbs, chilli, vanilla and liquorice.

To taste, you’ll find good freshness, dark fruits and cherries and chocolate notes.

A great wine to match to traditional Italian meals or enjoy on its own.

The Finer Details

What does our Somm say?

Mmmmm… Cirò Rosso Classico D.O.C. I love the spice and complexity of the aroma that this wine from Fattoria San Francesco gifts the drinker.

Find something rich and hearty if you’re looking for a great food pairing. My suggestions would be any of the following; Beef Bourguignon, slow cooked Kangaroo stew, lasagne, or even a bruschetta with a spicy Calabrian ‘Nduja paste.

If you prefer your food full of vegetables, a great alternative is stuffed bell peppers with spicy couscous or traditional ‘Arancini’ with tomato and cheese filling.

The Winery

Fattoria San Francesco is located in Quattromani in the D.O.C. region of Cirò in Calabria, surrounded by gentle slopes overlooking the Ionian Sea and vineyards, in the heart of an area traditionally suited to viticulture.

The Estate of Fattoria San Francesco finds its origins in the foundation of a convent of monks in 1578, where vineyards were placed in all their surrounding lands.

The convent was suppressed by a decree of the King Ferdinando IV on 30 October 1770. After this resolution, the convent’s assets, including the factories, were exhibited at auction and on 14 July 1777 sold to Don Benedetto Siciliani.
From those vineyards, still today, the wines of Fattoria San Francesco are produced.

In every wine of Fattoria San Francesco there is a centuries-old commitment to the year 1777, when the Siciliani Family won the convent at auction San Francesco founded by the monk De Paola

Dr. Francesco Siciliani, the last descendant of a family of winemakers, continued the family tradition, creating, in the midst of vineyards and olive groves, a modern cellar with cutting-edge winemaking methods.

In 2013, Fattoria San Francesco was taken over by the Iuzzolini family who continued its philosophy by reconciling the most modern winemaking techniques with the two-thousand-year-old wine traditions of the area. With a renewed range of wines of absolute quality, modern and young, the new Fattoria San Francesco immediately enters the high-end market, skipping the large-scale distribution and positioning itself in that niche of excellent products. They have enjoyed numerous International wine awards in recent years.
