The Finer Details
What does our Somm say?
This wine is reasonably versatile when it comes to food pairing; yes – the traditional dishes of tomato based pastas, spicy calabrese cuisine, and red meat or game will always complement this wine the best.
However, for something different, try this also with Dried Cod Stew (Baccala), Rogan Josh (Indian Lamb Curry), or spicy beef mince tacos.
Alternatively, a good quality cured cheese such as Gouda or Manchego make for more simple bites and let this wine take main stage.
As a full bodied wine with a reasonably ‘full’ bouquet, I would recommend decanting this wine an hour or so before serving.

The Winery
Cantine Lavorata is a family run winery founded in 1958. Situated in Roccella Jonica , within the province of Reggio Calabria in Southern Italy. Their vineyard’s unique vicinity to both mountains and coastline creates the perfect microclimate for growing the native grapes of the zone such as Magliocco, Calabrese and Greco Nero (which originated historically from Greece).
Cantine Lavorata are proud producers of D.O.C Calabrian wines, and for generations have dedicated their lives to the gentle and respectful growing of autochthonous wines on their estates. Their history of wine productions dates back to the 1800’s, when Luigi Lavorata began to practice a passion for wine making, however it wasn’t until the formal commercialisation of their wines that ‘Cantine Lavorata’ became known both within their region and internationally as producers of some of the finest wines in Calabria.
