The Finer Details

What does our Somm say?

The Kangaroo Island Vineyards
In 1991, fifth–generation Islanders Michael and Rosie Florance joined with the Amadio Family to produce the first commercial Kangaroo Island wine, under the Kangaroo Island Trading Company brand.

The vineyard located on Kangaroo Island’s Cygnet River has the perfect growing climate.

When combined with careful land nurturing and Amadio winemaking expertise, exceptional wines are produced. The Kangaroo Island range showcases the exceptional depth of Island terroir whilst including generous fruit flavours.

This wine has a very compact and intense fruit forward style that is soft and well-integrated with fresh acidity. Aromas of black current, mulberry and dark chocolate follow onto a long-structured palate of dark chocolate and mulberry that will unfold for years to come and makes for a great drop to both enjoy now, or age for later.

Pinot Noir is known to be quite a versatile when it comes to food pairings, lending itself to a wide range of foods.

For a lunchtime occasion or afternoon drinks, we suggest a Peking duck pancakes, fish tacos, fried chicken sticks or saganaki and herbaceous pita bread.

Within the context of evening dining and social banqueting, we found the Kangaroo Island Pinot Noir will sing when paired with pappardelle pasta and wild boar ragu, beef bourguignon, vegetable casserole, Roast pork (with sausage bread and fruit stuffing), or even salmon steak with mushroom sauce.

Optimal Serving Temp: 12-14 Degrees Celsius

The History of Amadio Winery

Since 1936, Amadio Wines has prided itself on producing premium quality wines vintage after vintage. Tradition and passion guide every step so our wine can be as brilliant as the people you share it with. National and international awards decorate our bottles, but our greatest reward is seeing our wines surprise and delight.

Giovanni found a job as a Market Gardener in a fruit orchard at East Marden and never lost a day’s work from there on. In 1932, Giovanni paid for his wife and son’s passage by ship, to join him in Australia, they arrived January 7th. In 1934, Giovanni purchased what became the family home and land at East Marden.

In 1936, Giovanni Amadio commercially registered his dry table Wine after years of making wine for family and friends. Giovanni sourced his grapes from leased vineyards nearby to make his well-crafted wine from his cellar door in Adelaide. His lighter, drier wine style became rapidly popular with word spreading interstate. A successful production began over time with his family cultivating a sincere appreciation for premium winemaking.

In 1949, he was recruited to become a member of the SA Fruit Growers Association. This led to a continued interest in development of the Market Garden Business through a vendors stall where he sold his produce to retailers and shops.

His subsequent plantings, vision for the region and diligent work lead to his premium wines gracing the tabletops of restaurants and households throughout Australia and overseas. His dedication as a wine producer focused on quality and helped him build an enviable reputation for creating award winning wines.

2005 and beyond
Success breeds success! As the winemaking generation continues with his son Danniel Amadio who aptly named the Amadio range of wines. Sourcing his premium fruit from the family’s Kersbrook, Adelaide Hills vineyards, Danniel maintains limited case production of every wine range to ensure hands on production standards, honouring family custom.
