2020 Nebbiolo Langhe D.O.C


Nebbiolo takes its name from the Italian word for fog (“Nebbia”). The reason for this is traditionally during harvest time in October, a deep and intense fog will set in across the Langhe region where the Nebbiolo vineyards are located.

Aged in oak for 12 months, and a further 2 months in bottle for refinement, this Nebbiolo Langhe D.O.C from Cascina Ghercina is a deceiving and delicious wine; the light ruby colour hides a wine that is both rich in texture and flavour.

With a spicy nose (cinnamon, caramel and vanilla) upon opening, the aroma lingers of forest fruits and buttery notes. On the palate you’ll find persistence of wild strawberries.

We enjoy this wine for its elegance and balanced tannins. Works super well with meat stews, mature cheese and rich vegetarian dishes.

This expression of Nebbiolo Langhe D.O.C from Cascina Ghercina is a truly elegant drop. It hold romantic nostalgia due to its namesake. To drink this wine is to (for a moment) stroll through the misty mountains of the Langhe wine region of Piemonte.


This wine traditionally pairs to noble foods such as duck, prime rib, well-made sausages and pork shank, however vegetable dishes are fantastic ‘food mates’ when approached with the twist of regional Mediterranean flavours. Think Eggplant parmigiana, Pasta ‘alla Norma’, stuffed and baked capsicum, or roasted veggies with a rosemary and garlic sauce.


If instead you prefer your Nebbiolo Langhe D.O.C in a more casual setting, try this with a platter of high quality prosciutto, salami and cheese. Make sure the cheese is on the creamier or fattier side, such as a nice goat’s cheese on crunchy bread or some aged Parmigiano Reggiano.

Cascina Ghercina Winery was born from the desire of Paolo and Guido Sartirano: to dedicate a selection of wines to the wine lovers passionate for Piedmont wines, who are constantly looking for quality and tradition.

Cascina Ghercina wines are the offspring of Piedmont and in particular Langhe, historical places suited to vines. The cellar produces wines of the Piedmont wine-making tradition, using the grapes of the vineyards located around the lake Ghercina, in a suitable area situated in Novello, on the border with Barolo village.
Nas-cëtta, dolcetto, barbera, nebbiolo are the main grape varieties from which important wines come to life. The most famous one is of course Barolo, vinified and produced with sensitivity and mastery to satisfy even the most demanding palates.
