The Finer Details

2018 Cannibal Creek Chardonnay

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

This Cannibal Creek Chardonnay has a beautifully balanced cream on the palate with a flavoursome intensity that is soft and lingers.

Chardonnay is known to be best paired to simple flavours, lending itself to silky, buttery foods with herbaceous or smokey flavours. In general, it is widely thought best to avoid overly spicy or acidic cuisines and flavours, so as to not overwhelm the subtle and pleasurable qualities of the Chardonnay.

For a lunchtime occasion or afternoon drinks, we would suggest to pair the Cannibal Creek Chardonnay with a baked halibut, risotto Milanese, or creamy or smoked cheese platter with herbaceous crackers.

Within the context of evening dining and social banqueting, we found this Chardonnay will sing when paired with, roast chicken or pork (with crackling!), garlicky-buttered French dishes such as lobster, crab, prawns, or potatoes. Even grilled vegetables, or anything with a smoky, buttery type sauce or reduction.

For a lunchtime occasion or afternoon drinks, we would suggest pairing the Klopp Mornington Pinot Gris with sushi & sashimi, cucumber sandwiches, Thai green curry, potatoes au gratin, Waldorf salad, or even baked salmon

Within the context of evening dining and social banqueting, we found this Pinot Gris will sing when paired with roast chicken or turkey, chilli prawns, or white cheese-based pasta bake. Even chicken korma curry, or anything that brings out the natural flavours of shellfish will do this delightful drop justice.

What does our Somm say?

The Kangaroo Island Vineyards
In 1991, fifth–generation Islanders Michael and Rosie Florance joined with the Amadio Family to produce the first commercial Kangaroo Island wine, under the Kangaroo Island Trading Company brand.

The vineyard located on Kangaroo Island’s Cygnet River has the perfect growing climate.
When combined with careful land nurturing and Amadio winemaking expertise, exceptional wines are produced. The Kangaroo Island range showcases the exceptional depth of Island terroir whilst including generous fruit flavours.

Considering the delicate citrus aromas and savory palate of this drop, it is quite a versatile Chardonnay when it comes to food pairings.

For light lunch fare or afternoon drinks, we suggest sweet potato fries, fried chicken, toasted macadamia nuts or creamy cheese risotto.

Within the context of evening dining and social banqueting, we found the Kangaroo Island Chardonnay will sing when paired with barbeque prawns, roast chicken with herb sauce, shellfish basket (lobster, shrimp, crab, scallops), and barbequed corn ribs.

2018 Ben Murray Grenache

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

The 2018 Ben Murray Grenache is the product of a great growing and ripening season in what has now been seen as a wonderful year to produce high quality wines from the Barossa region.

Ben Murray has sourced the Grenache for many years from Marananga Vineyards that are up to and over 100 years old.

Grenache is renowned in the Barossa region as a variety suited very well to the conditions. The vines produced ripe fruit from mid-March, which is harvested at ripeness, which was then crushed and fermented in open fermenters, cap plunged twice daily, in small fermenters.

Following fermenting to dryness, the wine was left in contact with the must for an additional 10 days. Pressed and racked directly to a mix of new and old French and American oak barrels for maturation for 14 months. Racked from barrel and prepared for bottling the resulting wine is a great example of the popular style.

If I wanted to keep to the traditional pairings of a Grenache, I would recommend a pairing of red meats, game, mature cheeses, and French cuisine. To be specific, try slow cooked wild boar stew, roasted seafood with garlic and lemon, quail with roasted parsnips or some aged blue vein cheese.

However, this Barossa Valley Grenache from Ben Murray lends itself to so much more than that!

We’ve found this South Australian Grenache to work amazingly well with Asian flavours too; enjoy this drop with pork cutlets & Asian coleslaw, barbecued duck salad, sticky miso roast chicken, pork buns, chilli crab or even a yellow beef curry.

Optimal Serving Temp: 18 Degrees Celsius
The Winery

In truth, Ben Murray is not one person, but two very passionate wine lovers who dreamed of one day crafting premium small batch wines with elegance and texture.

Like all great partnerships, it started with a common interest.

For Dan Eggleton (middle name – Ben) and Craig Thompson (middle name – Murray), that interest happened to a good drop of wine. As both Dan and Craig are originally Barossa boys, they have tasted a great wine or two…. or three over the years!

This wine has a very compact and intense fruit forward style that is soft and well-integrated with fresh acidity.
