The Finer Details
What does our Somm say?
Cascina Ghercina’s Barolo D.O.C.G, aged for 36 months in oak and further refined for 6 months in bottle, is ethereal and precious. Its notes of ripe red fruits and liquorice resonate like an orchestral symphony in the glass—enveloping, warm, soft, and elegant.
Barolo is Barolo. There’s a reason why it’s referred to as ‘The King’ of Italian wine. It is distinct and recognisable in its intensity, flavour and elegance.
That’s why I would recommend that if you are enjoying this wine with a meal, make sure your dish is well planned, rich in flavour and a little bit fancy.
Some suggestions would be a high quality wagyu steak, Venison Bourguignon, or hand made pasta with a rich truffle sauce. Historically this wine was enjoyed with the catch of the day made on the grounds of noble Piedmont family estates, such as pheasant and other game meats.
Otherwise, if you’re like me and love to enjoy this Barolo on its own (and in its own glory), I like to nibble on truffled cheeses and Danish blue on good quality crackers.
Decanting this wine or at least leaving it to open a little in the glass before drinking will help the complex flavours and aromas to unwind and make for an even more pleasurable wine.

The Winery
Cascina Ghercina Winery was born from the desire of Paolo and Guido Sartirano: to dedicate a selection of wines to the wine lovers passionate for Piedmont wines, who are constantly looking for quality and tradition.
Respect for the territory, the continuous search for excellence, authentic passion: these are the values inherited from their fathers and grandfathers, now combined with technologies that modernity offers.
Cascina Ghercina wines are the offspring of Piedmont and in particular Langhe, historical places suited to vines. The cellar produces wines of the Piedmont wine-making tradition, using the grapes of the vineyards located around the lake Ghercina, in a suitable area situated in Novello, on the border with Barolo village.Nas-cëtta, dolcetto, barbera, nebbiolo are the main grape varieties from which important wines come to life. The most famous one is of course Barolo, vinified and produced with sensitivity and mastery to satisfy even the most demanding palates.
Cascina Ghercina are honoured to share the historic and cultural importance of their wines and love their wines to be one day on your table, to share the emotion of tradition and the pleasure of good wine.
