The Finer Details
What does our Somm say?
This 2020 Barossa Rosé is made from 80% Grenache from the Marananga Vineyards of the Neldner family, who have been tending these sites for well over a century, and 100+ year old Pedro Ximenes planted near Tanunda.
The fruit was harvested from both vineyards at optimum ripeness, with the consolidated white and red grapes taken to the winery for processing. Crushed and pressed essentially immediately, the juice was allowed some skin contact time before being made in a fashion more suitable for white wines. Cold and slow, the ferment ticked away.
Natural yeast doing its work to start and add complexity followed by inoculation. Once completed fermentation, small adjustments were made to reflect the clean wine produced, highlighting the freshness in the wine. Bottled as soon as it was stable, with the resulting wine reflective of the resolve to make a dry and crisp style.
In terms of food pairings, this Barossa Valley ‘Marananga’ Rosé from Ben Murray lends itself a companion to the spicy, aromatic foods of Morocco, India, Middle East, Spain and Portugal.
We’ve found this delightful Rosé to work amazingly well with Spanish Tapas boards (think fried calamari with chilli salsa or jamon tostadas). Asian flavours sing when paired with this Rosé too; enjoy this drop with chicken curry, spicy baked Moroccan eggplant, Vietnamese seafood salad or even Moroccan couscous with salmon.
Optimal Serving Temp: 10-14 Degrees Celsius
The Winery
In truth, Ben Murray is not one person, but two very passionate wine lovers who dreamed of one day crafting premium small batch wines with elegance and texture.
Like all great partnerships, it started with a common interest.
For Dan Eggleton (middle name – Ben) and Craig Thompson (middle name – Murray), that interest happened to a good drop of wine. As both Dan and Craig are originally Barossa boys, they have tasted a great wine or two…. or three over the years!
