The Finer Details

2018 Bastianich Pinot Grigio D.O.C.

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

An ideal marriage for this Pinot Grigio from Bastianich would undoubtedly be the traditional pairing of seafoods; fried fish baskets, grilled calamari, and even shellfish pasta dishes.

For a lighter twist, try this wine with some vegetable quiche, mushroom or asparagus risotto, or crusty bruschetta of sundried tomatoes and eggplant. Cheeses and general Aperitivo fare are go-to when it comes to enjoying a bottle or two of this Pinot Grigio amongst friends. Some Sicilian green olives, aged cheeses, lighter salamis and rockmelon wrapped in prosciutto would be super tasty together with this drop.

Whichever context you enjoy your Pinot Grigio in, just make sure you’re chilling it to the correct temperature to really enhance its fruity and fresh profile.

Optimal Serving Temp: 10 Degrees Celsius

Drinking age: Drink now to 5 years

Grapes

  • Pinot Grigio 100%

Alcohol Content: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750ml

2019/20 Soave Classico D.O.C. ‘Grisela’ from Tessari Winery

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

‘Grisela’ Soave D.O.C. is an ‘every meal’ white wine. It works beautifully with light appetizers (olives, breads, sardines, cheeses, chips etc.), yet also pairs well with a delicate vegetable or cheese risottos, fish, pasta with seafood or using cheese or cream based white sauce.

But hey, even in winter, this white wine is versatile. You can try it with vegetable soups, legumes, or herb crusted fish.

If you want to re-create a truly ‘authentic’ experience, try your hand at some Veneto dishes such as Red Radicchio and pork sausage risotto, ‘Sarde in Saor’, Primavera pasta or Bigoli pasta with duck ragu. Then you’ll really enjoy it with a meal.

The volcanic soils of the hillside are rich with basaltic rocks and clays, which guarantees the health of the plant and the promotion of minerality and floral aroma that is characteristic of the Garganega grape. Artisanal wine making at its best, the straw-gold ‘Grisela’ is the backbone of the Tessari vineyard; a delicious entry level wine with elegant fragrances, citrus fruits and a good mineral notes that I would expect from the terroir.

Optimal Serving Temp: Chill to 10-12 Degrees Celsius

Drinking Age: Drink Now to 12 months.

What does Soave Classico ‘D.O.C.’ means?

This refers to the Italian acronym ‘Denominazione di Origine Controllata’ (or ‘Controlled designation of origin’). For Soave Classico to carry the ‘D.O.C.’ on the label, it must be produced within the dedicated Soave region and have a minimum 70% amount of Garganega grape used to produce the wine. Strict harvesting caps (yield quantity), minimum alcohol content, and other regulations must also be adhered to, in order to label your wine a Soave D.O.C

Grapes

  • Garganega 100%

Alcohol Content: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750ml

2018 Lugana D.O.C. ‘Il Gruccione’ from Nunzio Ghiraldi

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

Wow. This is some serious wine magic from Lake Garda, a divine lakeside setting for the Nunzio Ghiraldi wine estate.

The Bouquet is fruity and elegant, with notes of almond, thyme and sage. In the mouth, it gives sensations of a very well balanced acidity. This marries with the good savouriness which comes from the clayey land rich in mineral salts. Freshness is the final best characteristic.

The minerality and richness you find in this dry white lends itself to match with mature and hard cheese, lean fish dishes and shellfish.

In terms of a perfect wine to food combination? I would definitely go for a spaghetti ‘ai frutti di mare’ (clams, pippies, mussels, squid and shrimp) with a light dusting of chilli, or alternatively some crusted fish with a creamy lemon dressing.

Optimal Serving Temp: 8-10 Degrees Celsius

Drinking Age: Drink Now to within 10 years

Grapes

  • Turbiana 100%

Alcohol Content: 13%
Bottle Size: 750ml

2020 Colomba Bianca Lucido Sicilia D.O.C

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

Colomba Bianca created a range of wines that carry the name ‘Resilience’ for a good reason. After an entire zone of vineyards was wiped out due to earthquakes in the 80’s, most wine producers left the area, abandoning their ruined crops and lands from fear of history repeating itself.

The winemakers at Colomba Bianca’s wine estate in this area instead decided to stay, fixing their wine crops and renaming this estate ‘Resilience’. Today, to honour the spirit of dedication and hope of the Sicilian Wine making community, all the wines produced from that same historical estate now carry the same name ‘Resilience’.

This Lucido Sicilia D.O.C is a versatile wine when it comes to food pairing, but it does tend to love the usual Mediterranean aromas, spices and herbs typical of Sicilian and Southern Italian food.

To really honour the elegance and uniqueness of this dry white, I would pair foods that closely replicate the dishes of its traditional origin – Sicily (the seaside town of Trapani to be exact). For this reason, this Lucido Sicilia D.O.C. will shine as an accompaniment to an entrée of fish carpaccio, fried whitebait, grilled prawns, or other shellfish dishes.

If you’re not one for seafood, don’t fear! This wine is a wonderful match to lighter meals with vegetable bases; think a simple spaghetti al pomodoro, grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto or some tasty French fries even! I’ve recently enjoyed a bottle of two with friends over some fresh focaccia of olives and rosemary which was simple yet perfect.

Optimal Serving Temp: 8-10 Degrees Celsius

Grapes:

  • Lucido 100%

Drinking Age: Drink now to within 5 years

Alcohol Content: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750m

2019 Falanghina Del Sannio, Sant’Agata dei Goti D.O.C,
from Cantina Mustilli

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

Stone fruits, citrus and tropical fruits please the nose when you breath in this wine.
It alludes to the absolute freshness you’ll find at your first sip. I love the dry, crisp and mineral dimensions of this wine.

The Falanghina del Sannio D.O.C. is surely fantastic as an aperitif. Chips & guacamole, fried fish bites, arancini, or even vegetable crudités let the wine stand out amongst other dry whites.

However, if you’d really like to see this drop ‘sing’, bring it together with its traditional food partner; any shellfish or seafood dish.

Some specific suggestions are carpaccio of tuna, kingfish or salmon. Seafood spaghetti is also a great choice. And for special occasions, crab or lobster would be divine.

Optimal Serving Temp: 10-12 Degrees Celsius

Grapes

  • Falanghina 100%

Alcohol Content: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750ml

2018 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo D.O.C from Vigneti Radica

(Pack Contains 1 x Bottle of 750mL)

What does our Somm say?

I enjoy this wine for its simplicity and minerality – a good showcase of the distinct wines made under the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo D.O.C. discipline.

That same freshness allows the wine to shine when accompanied by herbaceous dishes – think salads with micro herbs, crusted white meats or marinated olives.

As dry white tends to lend itself to seafood sharing, this drop from Vigneti Radica is no exception and will shine when paired with dishes such as a simple fish & chips or more grandiose plates such as Moreton bay bug, lobster or crab.

For more simple moments, I quite enjoy matching this wine to some well-aged cheeses drizzled with aromatic honey, and crackers with blackberry & quince paste.

Optimal Serving Temp: 12 Degrees Celsius

Grapes

  • Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 100%

Alcohol Content: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750ml
