This white wine was once upon a time known as ‘Tocai’ but has now been renamed as Friulano D.O.C, a wine that is central to the culture and cuisine of the Colli Orientali region.

 

What I love about this wine is that it lends itself not only to pairing with Italian dishes, but spicier cuisines such as Indian and Chinese food.

 

For an Italian twist, try this wine with some quality Prosciutto di San Daniele, a lightly fried seafood basket or even a casual panino of white sausage and grilled spinach. Delicious!

In an Asian culinary context, this wine would make a wonderful accompaniment to a Goan fish curry, vegetable tempura or spicy vegetable stir fry.

 

If you choose to cellar a bottle, this wine will develop further and make a great match to pork dishes and turkey.

The Winery

Founded in 1997, the Bastianich winery, then formed solely of the Buttrio vineyards, marked the owner’s return to their origins, and a reappropriation of their territorial identity. An immigrant in the United States as a child, Lidia, and her son Joe, born in the U. S., lived their lives and realized their careers in the United States.
