The Finer Details
What does our Somm say?
This Pugliese Rosso I.G.P ‘Johe’ is a delight to drink, strengthened in flavour and aroma by the rich minerality of their soil and through the careful organic farming of the Zullo family of Tenuta Viglione.
Like most Southern Italian red wines, this drop shines most with Southern Italian cuisine. Think tomato based pasta sauces or lasagne, eggplant parmigiana or a simple bruschetta of smoked capsicum and garlic. This wine also loves to be enjoyed with meat, particularly lamb cutlets, slow cooked beef or oven casserole dishes.
As you can see, this wine lends itself to the weekend BBQ warriors, AND the planned Italian themed dinner party. I’ve been known to happily crack open a bottle or two with friends, over some delicious antipasto like sun dried tomatoes, olive tapenade and fresh, crusty bread with high quality extra virgin olive oil.

The Winery
Tenuta Viglione Farm was founded with viticulture of the Zullo Family and their passion for pugliese wines. The Winery was born from the desire to nurture the enormous wine-growing potential of the area between the municipalities of Gioia del Colle (Ba) and Santeramo in Colle (Ba) of Puglia. Tenuta Viglione has been producing quality wines in these territories for decades.
At 480m above sea level, the limestone soil is covered in pebbles and features remnants of sea shells due to their vicinity to the coast. This, along with the hospitable climate of Puglia, allows the grape growth to flourish, and the end wine products of this winery to stand out with their flavours, complexity, minerality and aroma.
The Zullo family produces characteristic wines of the area, whilst using techniques and the most productive & advanced methodologies – from the context of caring for land and grape, to the processing of the wine, the transformative phase, and its arrival to the bottle.
After many years, driven by his passion for the art of good wine, love for his own land and an attachment to the family and its winemaking origins, Giovanni Zullo (third generation of the Zullo family) was honoured to step up and continue to deepen the quality of all aspects of Tenuta Viglione wines.
Most recently, Giovanni has worked tirelessly to a process of restructuring and modernization of the ancient Masseria “viglione” which today represents the new characteristic setting of the family Farm. Recently the winery has become a certified Organic Wine producer.
