Introduced at the turn of the last century by the “Istituto Agrario di San Michele all’Adige”, to improve the patrimony of vines in areas on this side of the Alps in Far North Italy, Pinot Grigio soon became established due to the completeness of its structure, naturalising so well to the Trentino wine zone, it became Trentino’s ambassador on markets all over the world.

The ‘Terrazze della Luna’ Pinot Grigio from Cavit is straw yellow, leading nicely on to a clean, delicate, floral nose. Upon drinking, you will find this white drop to be both fruity, and at the same time, warm, in perfect harmony with its acidity.

‘Terrazze della Luna’ is versatile to your meal – it can be matched with a large number of dishes: from fried seafood to pasta dishes with richly-flavoured sauces, to poultry stews and baked fish.

If you’re looking for a go-to Pinot Grigio, here it is. This Pinot Grigio ‘Terrazze della Luna’ from Cavit delivers on all the dry and clean notes you’d want to find in a Northern Italian Pinot Grigio, but with added fruit and floral notes that add an elegant dimension to this drop.

 

The fresh fruity notes of this Pinot Grigio D.O.C from Cavit (green apple & pear, lime and earthy minerals) make it a superb accompaniment to salty crunch of a fried seafood basket or Aperitivo of fried whitebait. Super fresh, marinated and grilled octopus would go down an absolute treat with this wine also.

 

If you’re a bit of a pasta fan (and who isn’t!), try a Penne pasta with salmon, asparagus and a reduced creamy sauce, or go for the flavoursome traditional Spaghetti Carbonara. Scallops are often a crowd favourite when it comes to planned out meal pairings for this Pinot Grigio, but for a more casual bite – you can try it with fried chicken and thank me later! The Winery

Cavit (Italian acronym of Cantina Viticoltori del Trentino – Trentino Grape Growers’ Cellar) is a cooperative group uniting 10 Cellars of Trentino with overall 4,500 associated grape growers. Today Cavit gathers, inspects and selects the wine produced in the associated cellars, supervising each phase: from refining to bottling, all within respect of the environment.

 

Cavit collaborates with the renowned Agricultural Institute of San Michele all’Adige (Edmund Mach Foundation), which trains the most qualified technicians, as well as with other national oenological research centres. The result is a quality which is being constantly praised in Italy and abroad.

 

Cavit’s history starts in 1950, when some vine-growers, aware of the uniqueness of their land and eager to valorise their products, entered into partnership, establishing a Consortium of associated grape growers, a first draft of Cavit.

 

The Consortium was born to help the associated wine cellars and promote the “culture” of quality wine throughout the region, supporting the vine-growers throughout each phase.

 

In 1957, the technical function was joined by the commercial function: the Consortium acquired a cellar for the increasing needs of its associates.

 

In 1964, today’s premises of Ravina di Trento was built, and then expanded starting in 1977 until it reached its 80,000 m2 of today.
Since then, Cavit has become the reference point for Trentino’s wine production.

    Classic PG from the north of italy. A bit more oomph than the aussie PGs i am used to.
